11.26.08 Brookings Rockers About To Be ‘Disturbed’

Platinum-selling hard rock band Disturbed is coming to the Swiftel Center in Brookings Tuesday, Nov. 25. The four-member group will play at 7:30 p.m. after opening rock acts Egypt Central and Art of Dying. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets, which were still available as of Friday afternoon, are $35.50 in advance and $37.50 the day of the show.

Nearly a decade after the Chicago-based group’s groundbreaking debut album, “The Sickness,” Disturbed has emerged as one of the most passionate and well-respected bands in the hard-rock universe, known for its jackhammer beats as well as the members’ personal and political insights.

The group was born in 1996 when musicians Dan Donegan, Steve “Fuzz” Kmak, and Mike Wengren hired singer/songwriter David Draiman. Since the band’s formation, it has sold more than 10 million albums worldwide, making Disturbed one of the most successful rock bands on today’s music scene. With the release of its “Indestructible” CD in June of this year, Disturbed celebrated its third No. 1 album debut on the Billboard 200. Only six other rock bands have released three No. 1 albums in a row: Van Halen, Pearl Jam, U2, Dave Matthews Band, Staind and Metallica.

Originally classified as a nu-metal band, Disturbed is now regarded by music critics as hard rock or alternative metal. Frontman David Draiman says the group’s diehard metal fans will still be satisfied with the show, but “we’re more hard rock than heavy metal these days.”

Tickets can be purchased at the Swiftel Center, online at www.swiftelcenter.com or by calling 605-692-1992 .
